New Abstracts: Patterns

The PATTERNS series of acrylic paintings was begun in 2022. After publishing numerous books over a period of many years, including ten books of sonnets in 2021, I felt the need to get back to painting. Since I was already 93 years old and legally blind, I decided to create small paintings, using a limited number of colors and simple designs. I naturally gravitated toward geometric patterns because of their repeated shapes and orderly arrangement. The PATTERNS series afforded me an opportunity to explore variety within uniformity. Each of the works in this series is composed of a series of squares of equal size arranged in various configurations. Although the squares I painted to create the designs are not quite precise, I found that to be an asset because they look less mechanical and more like they were painted by a 93 year old woman who is legally blind.
